We love our little food baby!
Before I got pregnant I thought the whole "compare-it-to-a-fruit" thing was really over-played. But..... then... I got pregnant! All of a sudden, it was cute! We really enjoyed referring to the baby as "Poppyseed" or "Blueberry" early on, as if it was its name. It helped personalize it for us, when the baby was at a stage where it is hard to connect to on an emotional level. Thus-- Food Baby became a thing in our house and the weekly photos began. We decided to doodle a representative picture on each of the fruit, to remember what happened during that week of the pregnancy. What you have here are the explanations of each of the pictures above:
Week 12: Lime
The one and only time I threw up was the first day of Week 12.
Week 13: Shrimp
YUCK! I wanted a picture where I would be holding the shrimp between my fingers and pretending to eat it raw, but you can see that didn't happen. I could barely be in the same room as it! That picture is not staged, I swear it is completely real. I was retching just trying to get the stupid picture.
Week 14: Lemon
This is the week we went to Philadelphia. Baby's first family road trip!
Week 15: Apple
Boring week. We didn't know what to draw because all we did was go to work and come home. So that's supposed to be our baby's bored face.
Week 16: Avocado
The first time I heard the baby's heartbeat! I wish Jon had been there, it was so remarkable!
Week 17: Turnip!
My favorite week! The first day of Week 17 is when the baby first kicked! I was floored. The entire experience became so real and remarkable. This is the week it became a real baby in my belly, and reached out to say hello.
Week 18: Bell Pepper
Our bell pepper has a penis!
We were in for a surprise this week when we went to the gender ultrasound.
What a sneaky little bell pepper...
Week 19: Tomato
AKA: The "stretchy" week. This week I finally started to feel fat. My skin feels tight across my abdomen and I have a near-constant bloated feeling. We also put a rubber band around our fat little tomato to represent all the rubber bands that are holding my pants together now days.
Week 20: Banana
During this week we celebrated our FIFTH wedding anniversary!
Week 21: Carrot
We honestly couldn't think of anything to do with a carrot, and the week was not so interesting. So I decided to eat the baby... He looked tasty!
And that's where we're at! I started Week 22 on Wednesday and this pregnancy is flying by!

What a fun idea! Love all the pictures and stories to go with them...you're too creative!
Twice now I've commented and Blogger wont save it. What's up with that?
Anyway, I said that I felt the same about fruit comparisons until it actually applied to me... now it is more fun!
Love the idea of drawing on the fruit.
Love it so much! What a cute and way fun idea to remember your pregnancy! You are looking so cute preggers and I love that the word is out there now.
Oh fun! :-D I love the idea of drawing on the food in relation to what you're experiencing during the week...
Did you continue with your project? We're doing something similar, but am finding it increasingly difficult to find food in the appropriate size (week 24 at the moment).
